Anna Kaiser Trains Celebs, Runs After Her Son, and Eats Smart Carbs

By Emma Stessman

Anna Kaiser is a woman on the move.

She works out six days a week, sometimes up to three hours a day (with the occasional training session with celebs like Kelly Ripa and Shakira thrown in), while running AKT, her uber popular dance-based cardio and strength workout studio. Plus, her adorable one-year-old son is always up and running, keeping her on her toes.

So it’s no surprise that when asked what it means to her to “love more,” Kaiser’s response was all about sharing her fervent enthusiasm for fitness. “For me, it’s sharing my passion and giving 150 percent of myself to my clients when I’m in the room with them,” she says. “Whether it’s a class, a private session, or a continuing education session with my team, it’s really about giving and sharing my passion with the people around me.”

Keep reading below to find out how the passionate, active mom keeps her fire for fitness lit. Hint: Her routine includes coffee, fresh fish, and classic New York pizza.

How Does Anna Kaiser Live a Nutritious Life?

If you had to name your healthy diet, what would you call it? Why? Smart carbs. So, choose your carbs wisely. And by carbs I mean everything: fruits, vegetables… almost everything has carbohydrates in it. And being aware of and understanding the amount of carbs in bread versus broccoli, being aware of your macros in general. Eating enough fat and protein in combination with carbohydrates but really being smart about it and not eating a diet that’s primarily carbohydrates.

What’s your go-to breakfast? A smoothie with Pure Protein superfood plant protein powder. I’ll use the vanilla powder, and then I’ll mix it with ice and berries and some macadamia milk and sometimes I’ll put some spinach in there.

Your go-to workday dinner? I really do like making fish. I’ll steam it with broccoli and kale, some lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper, and red pepper flakes.

What’s the one food you always have in your fridge? I always have carrots. Between my son and I, we eat a lot of fresh carrots from the farmers market. We go every weekend and make sure that we stock up on fresh fish, meat, and vegetables.

The one food you’d never buy? Boxed cake or cookies, and white bread.

The snack you always have with you when traveling? Beef jerky.

What do you eat before and after a workout? I try not to eat anything less than an hour before a workout, and if I do, it’ll be something that is easily digestible like a green juice, a pureed soup, a shake, or just protein by itself without any carbs added to it, like a piece of chicken. After, I definitely have a protein source, whether it’s a salad with fresh chicken, sashimi, lentil mushroom soup, a shake, or beef jerky with an apple.

Your favorite food indulgence? Pizza. I always get it at the same place, which we think is the best pizza in New York, it’s a little tiny pizza joint that is just delicious. It’s the only place I get it from. It’s called Little Italy Pizza.

Other than water, what do you sip regularly? I’ll do a ginger kombucha or a Runa tea. At night, I really love golden milk. I’ll put unsweetened macadamia milk with turmeric and ashwagandha in it. I need coffee in the morning, I crave it, I love it. I’ve started having MCT oil mixed with water in the afternoon instead of caffeine, for a nice boost of energy.

How do you pamper yourself when you need it? I love a good massage. A deep tissue massage or acupuncture. A manicure and pedicure… there’s nothing like a delicious spa day where you just go and get a massage AND a manicure pedicure. I don’t think I’ve been able to do that since having my son, but that’s just such a luxury.

What does it mean to you to “live consciously”? To be in the moment, to be present and not think about what’s just happened or what’s about to happen, but really live 100 percent present in the moment.

Which healthy habit do you wish you had more time for? Meditation. I really do wish I could give myself more time during the week, even for 10 minutes to meditate.

Lightning Round

Meditation or massage? Massage.
A hot shower or a soothing bath? Shower.
Almond butter or peanut butter? Almond.
Coffee or tea? Coffee.
A long run outside or a dark spin class? Neither.
