When it comes to wellness, Kate Turner kind of does it all.
She’s a registered dietitian, a certified personal trainer, and became Nutritious Life Certified in 2017. She can also teach you to cook, with skills she developed during culinary training in Italy.
Thankfully, she doesn’t do it all in heels; that would just be too much. “I really only enjoy cooking if I’m comfy,” she says, “AKA in a sweatshirt and sweatpants.” (We are so into that.)
Turner, who is based in Santa Cruz, has been sharing her knowledge and skills lately as the leader of Nutritious Life’s Bay Area Facebook group. (The group started the year with a community “Reset and Refresh” cleanse and is now in the midst of a sugar education program, so if you’re in the Bay Area, join now!)
For further inspiration, we asked Turner to share how becoming Nutritious Life Certified impacted her business, Live Well With Kate, and how she lives her most Nutritious Life day to day.
TNS Success: Kate Turner
What inspired you to sign up for The Nutritious Life Certified Course? In January of 2017, I started my three-month intensive chef’s training program in Italy at the Italian Culinary Institute and wanted to keep my counseling skills fresh and learn more of the business side of things from the best, Keri Glassman!
Did The Nutritious Life Studio change your career path at all? It helped me do a complete revamp and re-launch of my private practice. I also made some of the best connections and friendships through the program that are priceless! Cheesy, I know, but the truth.
Were there specific lessons that helped you grow your business? During the 2017 Masterclass in Santa Monica, I learned SO many valuable lessons that helped me revamp and grow my business. Everything from pricing and legal aspects to ideal business name creation and amazing advice from some of the most influential wellness experts.
If you had to name your healthy diet, what would you call it, and why? “No Guilt” because I eat “healthy” (lots of veggies, greens, quality proteins, and healthy fats) most of the time, which allows me to eat and enjoy foods that may not be the best for my body without any regrets or guilt. Feeling guilty about food choices can create a bad relationship between you and your food. It’s best to listen to your body and understand why you’re making certain choices and be okay about it.
The one food you always have in your fridge? Avocado and pasture-raised eggs. (Sorry, can’t pick one!)
The one snack you always have when traveling? Nuts/nut butter packets and fruit.
Your favorite conscious food indulgence? A good grass-fed cheese burger topped with pickled onions and avocado in a lettuce wrap with fries and ketchup/mayo mixture for dipping.
What’s your workout of choice? I love strength training because it makes me feel like a strong as* woman, but also LOVE a good dance workout.
How do you stay active outside the gym? I love going for walks on the beach, riding my bike for transportation and hiking when the sun’s out.
What’s your go-to tool for managing stress? Still working on it, but a cup of herbal tea (hibiscus and peppermint are my favorites) to start and end my day always puts things back into perspective.
Which healthy habit do you wish you had more time for? Meditation and yoga, 100 percent.
