Top Five 100-Calorie Cocktails

When trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, people often worry (and wonder) about consuming alcoholic beverages. “What can I drink?” is a question that all of us at Nutritious Life get asked often. Whether you want to enjoy a glass of wine at dinner or a relaxing drink with a friend, most of us want to partake in a cocktail (or two!) now and then. Many popular cocktails are loaded with sugar which can not only add on pounds but it may also make that hangover even worse.

There can be over 30 grams of sugar in drinks like margaritas and daiquiris.  For every ounce of soda, tonic water or juice, there is approximately a teaspoon (4 grams)  of sugar in the average drink.

Now, we’re not about counting calories at Nutritious Life, and that’s not the point here. The point is to give you a better understanding of the lower calorie and lower sugar beverages so that you’re able to make a better decision the next time you want to indulge in a cocktail..  So, if you’re looking for a celebratory drink,, here are five go-to sips for close to 100 calories or less.

white wine spritzer

White Wine Spritzer

At 40 calories, this is the lightest and most refreshing cocktail. Fill a wine glass halfway with super-chilled wine. Then, splash club soda until the glass is three-quarters full. Garnish with a slice of lime.

Vodka Seltzer

Whether it is flavored or plain, sparkling seltzer is the ultimate pairing for vodka. Mix 1 ounce of vodka with seltzer and ice for a quick cocktail for only 64 calories. If you want to spice it up a little more, add some fresh, seasonal fruit.  There are seven recipe ideas here

Whisky or Tequila Rocks

If you’re looking for something a little stronger, opt for 1.25 ounces of your favorite spirit, like whisky or tequila with fresh lime over ice. Sip slowly and make it last all night for only about 80 calories.

Gin and Tonic

If vodka isn’t your thing, you can’t go wrong with a classic gin and tonic. Only 102 calories, this bubbly spirit is a fun happy hour treat.

White or Red Wine

White wine is crispy and light; and is perfect to pair with poultry. Great for warmer days and only 96 calories. If you want a little bolder flavor, enjoy a glass of red for 103 calories.
