Baked Sweet Potato Fries

classic healthy recipes

Is it just us or are sweet potato fries more delicious than regular french fries?

They’re always positioned as the “healthy” alternative at burger joints, but even if we weren’t considering nutrition, they have way more depth of flavor.

All they really need is a little sea salt, but you can also get creative with spices. Cayenne, chili powder, cinnamon, and cumin all complement them wonderfully, in almost any combination.

And yes, they’re more nutrient-dense than your average potato, and of course we’re baking ’em.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 whole sweet potatoes
  • cooking spray
  • to taste sea salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat oven to 400 F.
  • Peel and slice sweet potatoes into thin (1/8 inch) strips.
  • Spread in single layer on baking sheet.
  • Spray with cooking spray (generously) and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until crisp!

WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

It’s a fast, easy way to make a side dish that pairs with burgers, chicken, and other easy meals. Sweet potatoes are fiber-rich and filled with beta-carotene. Just remember: leave the skin on. That’s where many of the nutrients are hiding.
