Broiled Grapefruit with Cinnamon

Grapefruit is such a delicious, tangy breakfast fruit. Broiling it sweetens it up a little and makes it more appealing during colder months, when you want something warming instead of light and fresh. That’s where the cinnamon and honey in this recipe come in, too. And who doesn’t need the extra immune support these days that grapefruits offer? (Hello, pandemic.) Grapefruit is loaded with vitamin C and vitamin A, two nutrients known to support your body’s immunity. They’re a pretty powerful duo that just add to the benefits of this breakfast recipe. Give half to your significant other and enjoy it alongside a steaming bowl of oatmeal. Or, it works as a snack, too.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pink grapefruit
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

  • Cut the grapefruit in half widthwise (so the grapefruit stem end is either on the top or bottom of the counter when you cut across the middle).
  • Cut around the edges of each half grapefruit and in between each section with a paring knife to make the sections easier to remove with a regular spoon.
  • Drizzle the honey evenly over the top of both halves.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon over both halves.
  • Broil the grapefruit halves with the sweetened sides up on a cookie sheet.
  • Remove when the top of the grapefruit starts to turn light brown for 3 – 4 minutes.

WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

In addition to vitamins A and C, fiber, folate, and potassium, grapefruit also contains the powerful phytonutrients naringin and lycopene, which are associated with heart health and cancer prevention.
