Whey Smoothie

There are a few essential elements every post-workout smoothie needs. Namely, protein, carbs, and a little healthy fat.

This recipe satisfies all of those must-haves and then goes so much further.

Pomegranate and orange juices are both sources of sweet, fresh flavor while delivering major doses of antioxidants and vitamins. Avocado, meanwhile, adds creamy texture. And kefir? In addition to extra protein, it provides beneficial bacteria that boost your gut health.

All of this is to say we bet this smoothie is whey better than that totally basic protein shake you’ve been sipping.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla Life’s Abundance protein powder
  • 2 tablespoon avocado, chopped
  • 3/4 cup plain kefir (plain yogurt)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS

  • Place ingredients in blender and enjoy!

WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

Post-workout nutrition helps you make the most of the hard work you put in at the gym. Whey protein is loaded with branched chain amino acids and leucine (an essential amino acid), both of which are essential for building and repairing muscle during the recovery from a workout. Leucine has also been found to preserve lean muscle mass. All you’ll taste, though, is creamy, delicious fruits and vanilla.
