Remember when everyone in Hollywood was on the Grapefruit Diet?
That was a terrible idea (like every super-low-calorie, fad diet). Adding grapefruit to a margarita, on the other hand, is a great idea.
Margaritas are the bomb, and the fresh grapefruit juice in this recipe gives it a tart lime infusion while making the drink even more refreshing.
This one also has a slight kick, thanks to a pinch of chili powder and a few slices of jalapeno. Can’t you just taste the grilled fish tacos you’ll eat while sipping on it?
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups (approximately) ice
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 2 1/2 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
- 1 1/2 ounces silver tequila
- pinch sea salt
- pinch chili powder
- 2 slices jalapeno
- 1 slice lime
- 1 wedge grapefruit
DIRECTIONS
- Fill cocktail shaker half way with ice and pour lime juice, grapefruit juice and tequila into shaker and shake until cold.
- Rim a rocks glass with a mixture of sea salt and chili powder.
- Place the sliced jalapeno into the rocks glass and muddle.
- Add ice to glass and pour the shaken mixture over the ice and jalapeno.
- Garnish with a slice of lime and grapefruit, and serve!
WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE
Cocktails are often loaded with added sugar, but this one is all fresh fruit juice and nutritious spices. The reason grapefruit was the star of a fad diet, by the way, is that it’s been linked to boosting metabolism and promoting weight loss in animal studies. That’s not to say there’s any proof eating a moderate amount will help you shed pounds, but the fruit does definitely provide fiber, vitamin C and vitamin A.
