antioxidant-packed recipes

Turmeric, turmeric, turmeric. The term (turm?) is mentioned so often it practically sounds like the mantra of the wellness-obsessed (after matcha, matcha, matcha). Here’s the thing: the trendy root has gotten a lot of hype because its potential anti-inflammatory health benefits are pretty incredible. Once you get on board, though, the biggest challenge is figuring out how to get it into your diet. It’s got a very particular flavor and color and you can’t just start sprinkling it on everything. This latte, then, is a great solution, especially during winter months, when you kind of want to be sipping something warm 24-7. It’ll warm you up from the inside out, and you might just inadvertently start to hear the mantra, too.

Ingredients

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/3 teaspoon cinnamon
dash cayenne pepper
dash black pepper
Optional: 1 teaspoon maple syrup or coconut sugar
2 teaspoons coconut oil

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend on medium for less than 5 seconds.
  2. Pour mix into sauce pan and heat for 2 to 4 minutes over medium heat.
  3. Drink and enjoy!
WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE Turmeric is filled with curcumin, which acts as a powerful antioxidant to fight free radicals while at the same time lowering levels of enzymes that cause inflammation. And who doesn’t love a delish warm beverage you can turn to on days when you’ve really gone too far with the coffee?
