Nutritious Life, Life’s Abundance and the Best Supplements

My mission in life is to help as many people as possible take their nutrition up as many notches as possible, so they can live their most Nutritious Lives. It’s really that simple.

Everyday I seek opportunities to help me accomplish my mission, and weigh opportunities that are presented to me to help me do this.

When the opportunity arose to partner with Life’s Abundance to create a line of the best supplements you can find that were organic (when necessary), completely GMO free, at a cost that’s accessible to most people, and that I could be 100% involved in choosing the ingredients for, it was a no-brainer.

Yep, you read that right. I helped choose every single ingredient that went into these supplements.

I’m so ridiculously excited about this, and I know you will be too once you finish reading this!

In over a decade of counseling clients in my private practice in NYC, thousands of people have come to me because they’re tired, stressed, overweight, unfocused, unmotivated, and feeling like they aren’t the best version of themselves.

We live in an age with amazing medical breakthroughs that save people’s lives, except we’re sicker, fatter and unhealthier than ever.

We’re overfed and undernourished because we choose convenience over wellness and our habits are shot! I believe that having a solid nutritional foundation (and this doesn’t have to compromise convenience or taste!) combined with the other pillars of a Nutritious Life can help anyone attain and sustain a healthy body, mind and life.

Each of the products I created with Life’s Abundance contributes to building that solid foundation in some way. So, if you or someone you know is trying to take their nutrition up a notch, I’m glad you’re here.

Why I Partnered on a Line of the Best Supplements

We all know we should eat better and increase the nutritional value we get from food on a daily basis, but many of us either don’t know how or we simply can’t make it happen. Sometimes, it’s just not realistic to get all the vitamins and minerals we need from the food we eat, especially with issues of depleted soil, eating processed and overcooked food, and not eating enough fruits and vegetables.

This is why I’ve been recommending supplements for years –  because they supplement what is hopefully a healthy diet to begin with. Think of them like insurance for your body – they won’t replace solid nutrition, but when your body needs a little extra help, you’ve got it.

There are a handful of supplements that I’ve always recommended to my clients because I think they’re the most important ones for optimal health, so naturally they were the first products we developed, and we focused on formulating them in an easy to digest way.

We carefully handpicked each and every ingredient – if it’s in there, it’s in there for a reason – and left out any that posed a health concern or just flat out didn’t need to be included.

Supplements aren’t for everyone, especially those that are already eating an incredibly clean diet or are following a plan that guarantees they’re getting in all the vitamins and minerals they need. But they’re great for anyone that doesn’t fit those categories, no matter how close or far from that end of the healthy eating spectrum they are.

By adding supplements to your daily routine, you may start to feel a little healthier and more motivated, which can slowly make you become more mindful of what you eat. When you learn to make better food choices and feel better in your body, it’s a game changer for your whole your life.

Feeling good comes from the inside (mentally and physically), and creating change in your wellness routine can happen without deprivation.

These products are not a diet – they’re intended to be incorporated into your diet and your life to support your overall health, not just for 30 days, but for a lifetime. This is why I’ve incorporated them into my pillars of a Nutritious Life philosophy.

Why I Partnered with Life’s Abundance

I’ve had many opportunities to get involved with other companies before, but I never wanted to work with a company that I didn’t believe in or that didn’t share my same values and goals. When I met the team at Life’s Abundance it was clear we shared the same beliefs about health and wellness and our goals were in sync.

They’re an employee-owned company and they take a great deal of pride in doing solid work. They’ve been providing top quality products for pets since the 90s and a select group of dietary supplements for people since 2003. The introduction of these new products we worked on together represents a significant expansion of their dietary supplement line.

Life’s Abundance is known for making top notch products, having awesome customer service, and taking care of their people. And by people, I mean their employees, distributors, and customers. Pretty much everyone.

Distributors? Yep. They give people an opportunity to help support themselves and/or their families, have a little more freedom and a lot more fun by welcoming passionate people like you and me to become independent distributors for their products. What’s better than helping people live more nutritious lives and earning a great income while doing it?!

Why You Should Partner With Me

I love, as in L-O-V-E what I do. In over 10 years of counseling clients one on one in my private practice and reaching millions of others via national TV, I know how incredibly difficult it can be to make healthy choices and to change your diet and lifestyle. This is why I lovvvvvve making it easier for people!

I also know that I’m very lucky to earn a living and support my family doing something that I am so uber passionate about. And I want to help others have this opportunity, too.

So many people have jobs that they aren’t passionate about. They’re caught up in the rat race and the daily grind and struggle of working harder and harder and never having enough time left. It’s not easy.

Others may like their job and may be super passionate about what they’re doing but they just can’t seem to make ends meet at the end of the month.

Or worse, some people experience both. Sound familiar?

Through my partnership with Life’s Abundance, I can now provide people with the best supplements I know, give them an opportunity to better financially support themselves and/or their families, and have a little more freedom and a lot more fun.

antioxidant lifestyle pic 500

I truly believe that success comes from making money doing something you’re passionate about and actually enjoying it on a daily basis. Like I said, what’s better than helping people live a healthier life and earning a great income while doing it? In my mind, nothing.

Joining my team and becoming an affiliate is such an easy way to expand your wellness business. If you’re a health coach, registered dietitian, doctor, yoga teacher, nutritionist, personal trainer, massage therapist, pilates instructor, chiropractor, healthy chef, or overall health nut (like me!), chances are you already recommend supplements to people.

Yep, you tell them exactly what to take, which brands you love, where to buy them, and then you send them on their way to a better life and make no money in the process.

There’s a better way for everyone.

What if you found a product you LOVED, knew exactly who created it and handpicked all the ingredients in it, told those same people about it, offered them to buy it directly through you, and you made money in the process?!

It’s that easy. You haven’t changed a thing, except you probably have way more confidence in the product you’re recommending and you made a little money for yourself at no extra cost to your client, family, or friend. If that isn’t a win-win, I don’t know what is.

Sexercise: Why You NEED to be Doing It

Sexercise. You either just blushed when I said it, or you already have your pants unbuttoned. No judgement either way, but, full disclothesure (ha!), I’m going to try to convince you to get comfy with the concept.

I may not be Dr. Ruth, but this I know: A healthy sex life is an important part of living your most Nutritious Life. Is it as important as eating empowered, sleeping deep, stressing less and all of my other pillars? You bet.

Sex is good for you. It helps you recover from stressors better, strengthens your immune system, benefits your heart health and lowers blood pressure. Need more sex benefits?

Sex prevents prostate cancer in men.

It prevents bladder cancer in women.

It’s a mood booster.

It’s a pain alleviator.

It can help you lose weight.

It can help you look younger and sleep better.

And the one tiny detail we don’t focus on enough is that sex is actually a form of exercise as well. It strengthens muscles and burns about 3 – 4 calories per minute, kind of like biking at a light to moderate pace. So if you haven’t been biking because your tire is flat or your chain is loose or your handlebars are rusty, no more excuses. You don’t even need a bike.

There’s plenty of sexercise apps out there to help you calculate your, er, expenditure and keep track of your favorite ways of expendituring. Yep, there’s an app for that.

There’s a sexercise website devoted to helping you and your partner record those passionate calories burned and it even plots it on a graph for all you visual learners out there. It also tells you the equivalent exercises that would have burned the same amount of calories, and how many ounces of that glass of red wine you burned off.

There’s probably alot of other resources out there but I don’t want to get you in trouble if you’re reading this while at work. You can do that research on your own.

Speaking of research, it tells us that the more lovin’ you get in, the more lovin’ you’ll enjoy. It’s a self-fulfilling wellness wheel that you should climb on responsibly. Basically, sexercise should fit neatly sometime between waking up and falling asleep, like brushing your teeth or checking your email. If you tend to brush your teeth or check your email alot, bonus.

Most of us just think of the fun side of sex, not the fact that it’s actually good for your health. I’m not telling you to skip your morning run, or that you don’t need the spin class. I’m just saying that maybe it’s time to enhance your workout with a little between the sheets cross training.

Now stop blushing, keep unbuttoning your pants, and get your sexercise on.

8 Tips to Live a Better Life

So you wanna live a better life, do ya? You came to the right place! Today I’m talking about how to live your most Nutritious Life.

Learning how to live a healthy life is not all about the food. So many other factors in your life affect your weight and your relationship with food, so it’s important to make changes in and focus on all aspects of your life.

8 Tips to Live a Better Life:

1. Drink Up

Our bodies are up to 70% water! Being dehydrated can zap energy levels, slow down your metabolism, and make you feel hungry. I recommend grabbing a 32 ounce water bottle. All you have to do is fill it up twice a day and you’re good to go. Also drink two cups of green tea a day to stay hydrated and get in those great antioxidants found in green tea.

2. Eat Empowered

So many of us think of food in a negative way. Flip the switch to a place of positive energy and empowerment and know you’re in control, not the food. It’s not “I can’t eat the dessert.” It’s, “I can eat the blueberries!”

3. Live Consciously

The environment that surrounds us can impact both our mental and physical health. We can’t always control our environment, but we can do small things like making a clutter-free (and stress free!) zone in our office or home. Think of one area in your life that you can declutter.

4. Love More

Losing weight increases your libido, and having sex can help you lose weight too. Oxytocin, a hormone that acts as an antioxidant, is released during sex, a cuddle with your pet, or holding hands.

5. Nurture Yourself

Put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping others. We so often forget to take the time to care for ourselves. The time that you spend caring for yourself physically can reap huge mental and physical rewards.

6. Sleep Deep

When we sleep well we’re more energetic, make healthier food choices and are less likely to become obese. I want you to start practicing good sleep hygiene today! Your homework for tonight: give yourself a bedtime and try to stick to it.

7. Stress Less

We’re all experiencing way more stress than we should. Stress increases the level of the hormone cortisol in our bodies, which in turn makes our bodies crave carbohydrates, specifically high sugar carbohydrates, and store fat around the midsection. There are things you can do right now to take your stress down a notch. Try an eight count breath – breathe in for a count of eight and out for a count of eight. Try this for even just 4 minutes a day and you’ll sleep and feel better.

8. Sweat Often

When you exercise, you release endorphins, which make you feel good and motivate you to eat well. Set a realistic goal you can be super consistent with.

How does Jordan Younger Live a Nutritious Life?

Jordan Younger is the girl behind top-read health and lifestyle blog The Balanced Blonde. She is also the creator of the health-inspired conscious clothing line TBV Apparel, which now retails internationally. Jordan lives in LA, where she blogs full-time and just released her first book (which we were lucky enough to get our hands on early!), a memoir titled Breaking Vegan. I recently asked this healthy chica exactly how she lives her most Nutritious Life and I just love it. Here’s what she said:

How do you DRINK UP?

I am what I like to refer to as a very “beveragey” person. I am all about the liquids. I start my day with a glass of warm water with lemon, then an iced cold brew coffee, a green smoothie, lots of water, and lots of Liquid IV healthy hydration supplement. I am very active, so anytime I can get my hydration on, I do. When I am out on the town, I never stray from my trusty vodka soda with lime (Tito’s!).

To me, eating empowered is all about listening to my body and making the best choices that serve me. I am training for a marathon right now, so I have had to really tune into my body to make sure that I am nourishing and fueling properly. I strive to make choices that will not only be tasty and enjoyable, but will make me FEEL good. I live label-free with no restrictions, and that’s what I’ve found works best for me. Real food, from the earth, local, unprocessed is what I really love and lean towards, but being less of a stickler about it has helped me relax around food tremendously.

I try to pour my energy into causes that I am passionate about, like eating disorder recovery, animal rescue and raising awareness toward cyber bullying. I host a lot of events that give back to some of my favorite local LA organizations that raise funds/awareness for those causes. I also have a t-shirt line, TBV Apparel, and we make sure to use all ethical and organic fabrics and keep things as local as we possibly can. Again, I find the less I “stress” about making conscious choices, the easier and more enjoyable it is to fit those natural and important conscious choices into my life and daily routine.

How do you LOVE MORE?

Man, this is a great question. I surround myself with people that bring only the most positive, supportive, great vibes my way. LOVE is such a two way street, and I learned pretty recently that allowing space for those who love hard and love true is one of the best ways to live an empowered life. I am also big on the importance of loving myself — through daily mantras, being good to my body, making healthy choices, challenging myself, and never beating myself up for making “mistakes.”

Yoga, meditation, hydration, lots of good rest, nights in with friends, massages, facials, investing in nutritious food, educating myself on what’s important to me. Above all, nurturing myself means spending time alone and drawing inward when need be. I am an extrovert and a people pleaser, so sometimes stepping back and reflecting is what I need to really nurture myself and feel my very best.

How do you SLEEP DEEP?

By exercising during the day, staying super hydrated, and trying to let my brain wind wayyyy down before I get into bed. Lots of reading, no electronics in bed, and lots of snuggling with my sweet kitten Hudson.

How do you STRESS LESS?

I meditate, and I remind myself that whatever is no longer serving me, I have permission to let go of.

How do you SWEAT OFTEN?

Running, yoga, marathon training, HIIT at OrangeTheory fitness, hiking with friends on the weekends, and swimming/surfing in my beloved ocean!

How Does Deliciously Ella Live a Nutritious Life?

Ella Woodward is the author of popular food blog, She is a graduate of St. Andrews and is training as a naturopathic nutritionist at the College of Naturopathic Medicine while also developing her app, teaching cooking classes, and hosting supper clubs. Let me tell you, every moment I spent chatting with Ella, was simply, well, delicious!  Read below for a glimpse into how Ella lives her Nutritious Life in London.

How do you DRINK UP?

I drink a lot of water. And, a lot of herbal tea. I also have a habit of going to the local juice bar daily. Wherever I am, I always try to get in a smoothie or juice each day. What’s Ella’s fave juice? Spicy pineapple with ginger and cayenne.

By taking control.  I like to cook proper meals and incorporate variety into my diet.  It’s easy to snack, snack, snack but I like to sit down to proper meals and I like to cook my meals.

I’m mindful of all aspects of my life. I believe…messy space, messy brain. And, I act like a mess. I need to clean my space before I can work and be productive. I also practice yoga.

How do you LOVE MORE?

I find the better relationship I have with myself the more love I’m able to give to other people so I’m always working on being happy in myself. I’m a very open, expressive person though so being loving to everyone around me comes very naturally!

I take some “me time” every day. I used to work, work, work but I have learned that I need some time for me every single day. It may be a spin class, yoga or dinner with a girlfriend.

How do you STRESS LESS?

I work out! Intense cardio or interval training helps me reduce stress.  Cardio is time with just yourself. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the minutia of day to day, so I try to take time out to gain perspective.  Honestly exercise is like a magic pill for me, it keeps me so balanced.

How do you SLEEP DEEP?

I take epsom salt baths and add essential oils like lavender. It’s a nice break before bed and I don’t have my phone!

How do you SWEAT OFTEN?

I love to spin! I go to a place called Psycle in London and I enjoy the darkness and loud music and how this helps you get into the zone.

If you want more Ella, check out her new book, Deliciously Ella: 100+ Easy, Healthy, and Delicious Plant-Based, Gluten-Free Recipes available wherever books are sold and don’t forget to make her favorite recipe from the book, Almond Butter Fudge (see recipe below) stat.

Almond Butter Fudge

The first time I made this fudge my roommates and I ate the whole batch within about three hours and then had to remake it the next day because we were craving it so much; it’s that good—dangerously good, even! Each bite is so gooey and chocolaty, it’s crazy to think it’s made from just four ingredients. The fudge is stored in the freezer, so you can make big batches of it to store for later, which means you always have something deliciously healthy to enjoy any time of the day.

Makes about 20 pieces

  1. Place the dates in a saucepan with a little boiling water. Allow them to cook for 5 minutes, until they’re really soft and all sticking together.
  2. If there is any water left in the pan, then drain it and set the dates to one side to cool for a couple of minutes.
  3. Place the almond butter, coconut oil and cacao powder in a food processor and add the dates in before blending for a minute or 2, until a sticky paste forms.
  4. Line a 10-inch baking dish with parchment paper and pour the mix in before putting it into the freezer to set for at least 3 hours before serving.
  5. Store in the freezer. When you want to enjoy a piece, take it out of the freezer and allow it to warm up for a few minutes before eating.

Top tip: Try adding chunks of nuts and raisins to this to change the texture and add more of a crunch.

How Does Maria Rodale Live a Nutritious Life?

As the granddaughter of the founder of organic movement in America, Maria Rodale is a third generation leader of  Rodale, Inc. (the company that publishes magazines like Men’s HealthWomen’s HealthPrevention, as well as the forthcoming re-launch of Organic Life; plus bestselling books like the recently released Thug Kitchen, Jessica Alba’s The Honest Life, Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Mama and The Kind Diet, and Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth) and she is also the author of Organic Manifesto: How Organic Farming Can Heal Our Planet, Feed the World and Keep Us Safe.

Maria’s mission for Rodale is the same as it was in 1930 when her grandfather JI Rodale started the company.  He knew that there was a direct relationship between the declining health of America’s soil and the health of America’s people, a revolutionary view in those days.  In 1942, Organic Farming and Gardening magazine launched, today known as Organic Gardening, which taught people how to grow better food by cultivating healthier soil using natural techniques and today, the Rodale family is widely recognized as pioneers of the organic movement in America.

Maria is passionate about carrying on that tradition and forwarding the movement.  She recently launched Rodale’s, a specialty e-tail store offering healthy products that nurture happiness, protect nature and help people around the world. Every product offered (from food to home to personal care products to apparel and more) is responsibly sourced. She is committed to inspiring and enabling people to improve their lives and the world around them every day.

As an activist, a speaker, a businesswoman, a cook and a mom, she is dedicated to promoting the benefits of an organic and healthy lifestyle.

I try to eat as closely to nature as possible. That means organic, real food and I want to know where it comes from and how it is grown. I worry less about calories and more about nourishment. I also do heaps of cooking from scratch! I post lots of my favorite recipes on my blog, Maria’s Farm Country Kitchen.

Living consciously for me is a constant process of checking in with myself (how am I really feeling? Am I loving or hating what I’m doing? What’s most important right now?) and then pushing myself (Is there more I can be doing? Am I doing too much? How can I make myself healthier and happier?) I try to make my life a rewarding life of service to others — through my family, my business and my mission—but to truly be effective I have to cultivate that consciousness within myself first. Keeping a journal is key, and fascinating to look back on as well.

How do you DRINK UP?
My current obsession is ice water! Sometimes, if I’m feeling the need for a “drink” (I don’t drink alcohol) I order a sparkling water “on the rocks.”

How do you LOVE MORE?
If love were easy, the world would be a very peaceful happy place. But love is hard, especially unconditional love, which is what I strive for. Love means listening and observing and seeing beyond the surface — realizing that underneath anger is often hurt, but also realizing that anger is ok sometimes! Unconditional love also begins with learning to love ourselves, even though we are not perfect by any means. Even though we will never get everything done or make everyone happy or accomplish all we want to accomplish. The deepest love is incredibly forgiving and patient…and sometimes hard. But if we don’t love ourselves first, it’s incredibly challenging to love other people.

How do you STRESS LESS?
Making lists, checking them off, writing things down, I am constantly asking myself — do I need to do this? Do I want to do this? What can I say no to? What can I say yes too? What can I let go of? What can I delegate? And then try to focus on what really matters and is most important and let everything else (and everyone else) fend for themselves. My life got a whole lot better and happier when I learned that it wasn’t my job to fix everything and everyone else! {Tweet this}.

Hot baths, monthly massages, the occasional spa visit, yummy organic food, snuggling with my kids and especially connecting with nature — even just going outside and laying down on the earth — it’s so grounding and healing. I also enjoy laughing. So anything to make me laugh is good. I also love to paint, write and listen to music. Often at the same time.

How do you SLEEP DEEP?
Generally I am a good sleeper. But I prefer a really cozy bed with soft pillows and blankets (when I travel I take a shawl that makes any bed “my own.”) My bed at home is an organic mattress and all the bedding is organic and I can sleep really well in it. I LOVE to sleep with the windows open! And my sedative of choice is a good paper book. I’ll read until I can’t keep my eyes open and then drift into dreamland while expressing deep gratitude for all the wonderful people in my life. And for my bed, too.

How do you SWEAT OFTEN?
This is the one area I need to work on more. I sweat the most when I run, but I’d like to run more. I can’t ever seem to hone in on just one sport — I like to walk, lift weights, do yoga, ride my bike. But I’m constantly struggling to motivate myself and make myself work out harder and more often. But that’s life, isn’t it? We all have things we can work on and do better at. I’ll add it to the list…
