February Tips

March is national nutrition month! This campaign, created by the American Dietetic Association, was developed to bring attention to the importance of making healthy food choices and developing good physical activity habits. This month, make a special effort to be aware or your health.

This monthly email gives you tips on the 6 components to a complete and healthy life. Enjoy your March monthly tips!

Stress:
When you feel yourself getting stressed, make a conscious effort to speak more slowly than you usually do. This helps you think more clearly and make more reasonable decisions in response to stressful situations. Speaking slower will make you feel less anxious and more in control!

Sleep:
Hide your clock! A large, illuminated clock sitting right by your bed may make you feel stressed and anxious about the time. Place your clock somewhere where you can’t see it when you’re laying in bed to help you relax and sleep better.

Fluids:
Forgetting to drink enough water in the cold weather? Have a big glass of water at each “transition point” of your day. For example, when you first get up, before you leave the house, when you get to work, etc.

Personal Time:
Got the cold weather blues? Sign up for a website that will email you weekly travel deals. Escaping to the beach for the weekend might be just what you need!

Exercise:
Wondering why your joints are suddenly hurting after your workout? You may need new shoes! Go get your feet checked out for a running or workout shoe that fits your foot type. According to the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, wearing unsupportive shoes while exercising can greatly increase your risk of injuries... Who wants to end up on the couch as the warm weather hits?

Diet:
Celebrate national nutrition month and St. Patrick’s day this March by getting in extra dark, leafy greens! They contain tons of vitamins, minerals and fiber, making them some of the most nutritious veggies around. How can you get your greens in aside from the same old salad? Try adding spinach to your morning eggs or omelet, add arugula to your lunchtime sandwich, wrap up some turkey slices in a romaine lettuce leaf, or sautŽ some mustard greens at dinner.
