Do you sleep with your iPhone? We’re all guilty of being attached to one electronic device or another, but we need to give it a rest–literally! The National Sleep Foundation’s annual Sleep in America poll suggests that 95% of Americans use electronics before bed and 63% of those surveyed said they are not getting adequate sleep. Allison Harvey, a sleep specialist at UC Berkeley, believes the exposure to light before hitting the sack disrupts the production of the hormone melatonin, which helps us fall asleep. Researchers recommend an ‘electronic curfew’ no less than an hour before bedtime to help calm our nerves and promote a good night’s rest.
